Green Bank – WV
Green Bank, West Virginia is home to part of the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NARO). The observatory at Green Bank houses several radio telescopes listening for signals from space, among which is the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope (GBT). The GBT is the world’s largest, fully steerable single aperture antenna.
This area sits in the the United States National Radio Quiet Zone which straddles the state lines of Virginia and West Virginia and is approximately 13,000 square miles in size.
Green Bank is also close to the Snowshoe Mountain ski resort, and is home to nearly 150 people.
