Little River Canyon – AL
Little River Canyon Falls is located on the nation’s longest mountaintop river, which flows for almost its entire length down the middle of Lookout Mountain in northeast Alabama and empties into Weiss Lake. The Little River wound through layers of sandstone to carve one of the Southeast’s deepest canyons, sometimes described as the “Grand Canyon of the East.”
Little River Canyon is a National Preserve, harboring several rare and endangered species. The area also offers hunting, hiking, kayaking, and picnicking opportunities. There are horseback riding trails, all-terrain-vehicle trails, and even bike trails. This reserve spans 19 miles and boasts eight different scenic overlooks.
