Patricia Louise Neal
Patricia Neal was born in Packard, Kentucky in 1926. She studied drama at Northwestern University and won a Tony Award for her work on Broadway.
She starred in many successful films and won an Oscar for Best Actress. Her peronal life however contained tragedy. She lost a son who was killed in an accident and a daughter who died from measles. She suffered a series of debilitating strokes and almost miraculously was able to recover and continue her career. She developed a form of therapy that is still in use.
The Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville Tennessee is named for her. She was married to children’s author Roald Dahl and is the mother of a daughter.
She wrote an autobiography in 1988 and was the subject of a movie, The Patricia Neal Story.
